Artists update, 21st December, Winter Solstice

After a trip to Glastonbury today, with two visits to the top of the Tor, the latter taking in the sunset on the day of the Winter Solstice, I have just added photographs of some of my favourite latest paintings below, before I start painting again later tonight...

Update from my gallery - 4th November 2014

One of my latest oil paintings. Just Drying. This one of Sunflowers at Noirmoutier, Vendee, France..........

Another of my paintings just drying, this is an oil palette knife painting of a German Short Haired Pointer........

Coming soon to my Etsy shop (just drying at the moment) 'Cider Apples with Bottle', Oil on Board....

Showing some detail of the above oil painting......

I am in the process of adding some gesso layers to some new canvasses, ready for some more dog oil paintings to be completed in November.....

This board has had three layers of gesso already. I am now adding a background colour of Rembrandt oil colour, in this instance Jaune De Naples Vert ( Naples Yellow Green). When this is dry I will then scumble in another colour to give more depth before I then paint on top on this.....

Summer and Autumnal Hues, musings about paints

This latest flower oil painting of mine really harks back to the warmth of summer, which is noticeable for its absence now that the temperature has dropped dramatically over the last few weeks....

This is a small oil study of a Degas portrait that I started last week. I might finish this one off, but because I want to really be painting another dog I have side-lined this one for the moment.....

Some of my most useful oil painting brushes..........

So many beautiful colours to choose from . The rich reddish-brown colour directly below is one of my favourites. It is a red bias Burnt Sienna. I mix it with both Titanium White and Pip Seymour Royal Blue Light  to produce beautiful colour mixes. The light brown on the far right is a French Yellow Ochre. This is a Michael Harding paint. The quality of this paint is second to none, and this particular colour mixes splendidly with white and grey to produce some really useful colours.

OCTOBER NEWS

I have just bought some new shades of Murano pastel fine art paper. It has a naturally textured surface and 45% cotton content to give it a classic, luxurious feel. The paper weighs 160gsm and I will be trialling this on some greyhound pastel paintings in the very near future. I have plenty of different shades of Unison soft pastels, which I use in conjunction with traditional graphite pencils, usually 2B or HB.........

.

Mentioning greyhounds, this grey and white rescue greyhound looks a particularly good subject.........

I have just received a new order of artist oil paints from my supplier, Jacksons of London and I have several news colours I haven't tried before, namely Cobalt Violet, Violet Grey and Pyrrole Orange...........

This is my folder of dog photographs. These particular ones show dogs I have already painted and the originals are available to purchase in my shop............

I have also a new supply of canvasses and my favourite watercolour paper....

Todays new painting to my shop

Painted 21st to 23rd September 2014

I am enjoying painting nature subjects at the moment, they seem to be flowing really well and I have wanted to paint a Burrington Goat for quite some time.

This is a painting of a fine billy goat, which I captured on film at Burrington Combe, Somerset.

Apparently Augustus Montague Toplady was inspired to write the hymn Rock of Ages while sheltering under a rock in Burrington Combe ( some recent scholars have disputed this) but the tale makes a great story.

Canvas ready to hang , side colour white

Watercolours to fit IKEA ready to hang picture frames

This photo shows how my mounted watercolours fit nicely within IKEA READY TO HANG PICTURE FRAMES. The frame in this instance came with the internal white mount included. My coloured mounts then slip in behind to give a very pleasing effect. The outer sizing of my coloured mounts is 12" x 16".

IKEA usually have a range of different style frames to complement different styles of interior design
